Piraeus Port Metro

Athens Metro Line 3 is regarded as the top value-for-money option for rides from Piraeus Port to downtown Athens or even the airport. Here, you can check out everything you need to know about the metro line from Athens Port: routes, schedules, prices, fares, discounts, and connections.

Athens Metro Line 3

Athens Piraeus Port is linked to the city center and El. Venizelos Airport via the Blue Athens Metro Line 3. Verily, the Blue Line travels from Piraeus, connecting the port to downtown in about 20 minutes and to Athens Airport in about an hour. Please note that not all trains run to the airport. Thus, if you want to travel from Piraeus Port to Athens Airport, you’ll have to catch one of the trains displaying the word “Airport” on their destination boards as well as bearing airplane stickers on their windows. Moreover, trains heading to the airport travel above the ground from Doukissis Plakentias Station to their terminus.

Overall, the Piraeus port metro is considered a convenient and fast way to travel from the Port of Athens as it doesn’t depend on the traffic conditions. Small pets are allowed inside the carriages, provided the owner complies with specific requirements, while passengers may carry bicycles inside the metro (subject to capacity). On the other hand, Athens Metro Line 3 often gets crowded, making journeys with lots of luggage or small children tedious. Moreover, during rush hours, when passengers travel packed, you should pay attention to potential pickpockets.

Piraeus Port Metro Station

Unfortunately, Piraeus Port Metro Station isn’t located within the port’s premises, but it lies on its perimeter. Still, the free PPA shuttle buses handle rides to the furthest-located gates of Port of Athens. Thus, passengers heading to Athens or the airport from Piraeus Port have to reach the station close to Gate E5, while those traveling from Athens to Piraeus Port have to hop off the train one station before the Blue Line’s terminus (Municipal Theater), that is at Piraeus Station. The station also serves suburban trains and trams. It is modern and equipped with all the necessary facilities (such as restrooms). What’s more, it is an accessible transit hub featuring services and amenities for passengers in wheelchairs or travelers with mobility issues.
