Civitavecchia Rome Ferry and Cruise Terminals
The Port of Civitavecchia is an important maritime hub on a global level. Linking the mainland to the islands of Sardinia and Sicily, it also offers connections between two continents. Verily, sailings depart from the Port of Rome heading to destinations in North Africa (Tunis). Moreover, Rome Cruise Port is the second busiest in Europe and one of the most occupied cruise ports in the world. Overall, the port boasts five cruise terminal buildings and a ferry terminal (ADM).
Rome Cruise Terminal Buildings
Civitavecchia Cruise Port has 5 terminals serving the needs of cruise passengers. The Rome Cruise Terminals are located on docks 10, 11, 12, 12 bis, 12 bis, 13, 13 bis, and 25. The four of them lie along the Cristoforo Colombo antemurale, whereas the fifth one is situated on the opposite side. Out of them, the relatively new Amerigo Vespucci Terminal is undoubtedly the main one, handling the vast majority of the port’s cruise passenger needs. Named after the great Italian explorer, it opened its doors in May 2018, bearing an innovative design and being technologically advanced. It is spread over an area of 11.000 square meters and is one of the largest (if not the largest) terminals in Europe. The main Rome Cruise Terminal has a check-in area with 60 counters that can be doubled during peak season, and 90 monitors indicating the passengers’ check-in status, the cruise ships arrivals and departures, and other useful info. The security check zone is also to be found close to the check-in area. A VIP lounge area (with a separate check-in zone) and a terrace, a bar, and a restaurant also lie inside the Rome Cruise Terminal. Moreover, the terminal boasts an exhibition space, displaying artifacts from the Roman and Etruscan periods. Once the check-in and security control processes are completed, passengers can use the movable bridge and reach their cruise ship in comfort.
The port shuttles offer connections to and from the cruise terminals. What’s more, the cruise shuttle (available for a fee) provides direct connections from the Civitavecchia Train Station to the cruise piers and vice versa.
Our Tip: A new Rome cruise terminal building is expected to be added to the Civitavecchia port complex, situated close to Amerigo Vespucci Terminal.
Rome Port Passenger Terminal
The Rome Port Ferry Terminal is known as Autostrade Del Mare Terminal (Highways of the Sea), ADM Terminal, or Terminal Traghetti (T1). It exclusively handles the port’s ferry passengers, featuring all the necessary services and amenities to meet their requirements and facilitate their travels. It is located close to docks 20 and 21 (right before the main departure and arrival ferry gates) and is a busy terminal, especially during the summer months. In general terms, it is estimated that around 1.5 million passengers are served by the ADM Rome Port Ferry Terminal each year.
The ferry terminal at Civitavecchia Port has ticket offices. Thus, travelers who haven’t made a previous reservation can purchase their ferry tickets inside the terminal, Moreover, they can also make their check-in, relax at the seating area, enjoy a snack or a refreshing drink at the bar-restaurant, or even spend their spare time until the departure of their ferry route playing table soccer. Verily, soccer tables are another amenity inside the terminal. A few shops are also available, where passengers can buy souvenirs, magazines, newspapers and other items. Expectantly, restrooms are also to be found inside the terminal. Travelers can make use of the Wi-Fi, while a few parking spots are accessible in front of the terminal free of charge. Do you have any questions concerning your ferry journey from the Port of Rome? An information desk lies inside the ADM Terminal, operating from 10:00 am to 02:00 pm during weekdays. Unfortunately during weekends, it remains closed.
The Rome Port Ferry Terminal (Autostrade Del Mare) is open from 06:00 am to midnight during the summer season and from 06:00 am to 11:00 pm during the winter. That being said, if a ferry route is delayed, the terminal remains open until its arrival.
Our Tip: Do you want to store your luggage at Civitavecchia Port? You won’t find a designated luggage storage area inside its premises. However, cruise and ferry passengers can use the luggage storage facilities located outside the Civitavecchia port complex (Seamenstop: Viale Garibaldi n.1, and Bar Navy: Via Tarquinia 33).
